The Challenge:
In regions like Karamoja, the barriers to education are compounded by extreme poverty and a lack of basic menstrual health resources. Data indicates that girls in these underserved areas can miss up to 20% of the school year due to “period poverty,” leading to higher dropout rates and early marriages.
The Initiative:
Originally founded by our students, Patience and Kashish, we are scaling this program to address the critical need in Karamoja. We move beyond simple “handouts” by teaching girls to manufacture high-quality, reusable sanitary wear using affordable local materials.
The Impact:
This program provides a vital trade skill while ensuring that menstruation never forces a girl to choose between her dignity and her education. By staying in school every day of the month, these girls are empowered to break the cycle of poverty in their communities.
